We
adopted our Angelina from the famous Battersea Dogs' and Cats' home
in London. She had been taken in as a stray, but we think she may have
been given up because her previous owner got a dog - she hates dogs!
When my husband spotted her in the pen, my comment was "she doesn't do
very much" - to which he replied "that's a good thing!" She is indeed
a very relaxed cat, and after a nervous start, she really settled in and
was running the household in no time. Adopting older cats is underrated
- they're so grateful for a good home to settle in, and don't tear down
the curtains.
Angelina is a soft and fluffy girl, and the vet described her as
'Rubenesque' and 'a comfortable Western European cat.' She keeps in
shape by running up and down the stairs into our garden, and chasing
away various admirers who poke their heads through the cat flap. She
adores chicken, and the smell of cooking sausages makes her go
hysterical - whereas the sound of aluminium foil or the vacuum cleaner
result in a quick exit.
Each morning begins with Angelina crashing against the bedroom door
until we get up - we had to keep her out of the bedroom at night because
her purring was so loud it kept us awake - even through ear plugs! She's
now so confident that she'll stick her nose into visitors' handbags and
builders' tool boxes, and flops on her side to flirt whenever she wants
attention. She knows her best 'look' is when she cleans the underside of
her front paws - it makes her look elegant! We really love our big girl
and can't remember what we used to do before she arrived into our home!
