This
is Lucky Lukey. Lukey showed up in our backyard three months ago very
skinny, fearful and hungry. I assumed he was feral and fed him, but was
surprised when didn't run off as I approached. He crouched and waited and
although was cautious and unresponsive, he wasn't feral. Lukey definitely
had human contact before and was either lost for some time or had been
abandoned. I posted a found ad, but no one replied. Over the next several
days this fearful cat morphed into the most affectionate, loving creature
I ever met! He was starved for human touch more than food it seemed. He
was also having a hard time out there, aside from the elements and lack of
food, he was being terrorized by two feral tomcats. Lukey needed rescuing
and I was resolved to find him a good home. We already had five cats and
the No Vacancy sign was lit. One night I opened up our backdoor and
invited him inside. He ambled in like he already lived there! His house
manners were impeccable. He used the litter box within five minutes and
the scratch post. Two days later we took him to the vet for shots and neutering.
Luke, now with us over three months, is the love of our lives. He never
fails to show his gratitude in being part of our family. He is such a
happy and sociable boy. The first few days he was a little wary when you
reached out to pet his head. He would cower, as if you were going to
strike him. I suspect he had been abused. Lukey is living the good life
now. He sleeps with us on our king bed, instead of the ground. He has
shelter from the rain. He gets regular meals and no longer feels hunger
pangs. He's safe and doesn't need to worry about tom cats attacking him.
Lukey is an expert "biscuit" maker and has so many endearing habits they
could fill a page. At the end of the day we are truly thankful he found
us. To think that such an amazing cat could have turned feral in due time
would have been a tragic loss for us and him. As far as finding him a
home... he's already there.
