This
is Whiskers. A few years ago our kids came running in from outside
wanting me to come see the cat they "found." She was very friendly and
obviously had been dumped in our cul-de-sac. Our neighborhood was one big
family and I knew she didn't belong to any of them. Whiskers was very,
very hungry. Already having two indoor cats I fed her on the front porch.
After about a week it became obvious she was pregnant. I couldn't let her
have her babies under a bush somewhere so we decided to take her in. After
another month or so she had six kittens in our bathroom. Of course they were
all adorable! We ended up keeping one of them and found good homes for the
other five.
Whiskers has turned out to be a wonderful cat. She's not a lap cat but will
lie at your feet mewing until you give her a tummy rub. She sleeps on one
corner of our bed keeping my feet warm all winter. In the warm months she
sleeps somewhere else in the house. She's an indoor cat for the most part
(and wasn't happy about that change). She goes outside only when I go across
the street to get the mail, then she has to go back in the house. She makes
the most of those few minutes, though, once even making it up on the roof!
Whiskers still plays like a kitten. We slide an old sports drink bottle cap
back and forth down our hall (hardwood floor) and she wears herself out
attacking it. She also loves chasing tiny bouncy balls up and down the hall.
Whiskers is the best!
