I
brought Freyja home when she was only six weeks old. It only took about
an hour for her to be in charge of our house, and less than a day for her
and our other kitten, Indy, who was then seven months old, to be buddies.
My husband wanted desperately to name her Cuddles, but she is often too
busy to be cuddly, so we call her Freyja (pronounced Fray-a), after the
Nordic Goddess of Boldness, Love, and Beauty.
Freyja spends her time running around the house, climbing up our curtains,
hiding under rugs, and chasing her brother Indy around the house, trying
to bite his tail. She also loves to watch my husband play video games,
staring intently as she sits in front of the computer screen. She and I
watch TV together in the evenings as well. She is quite active, but when
she is ready for a nap, she and Indy snuggle up together. In the mornings,
I often wake to find her suckling on the fur of his neck as if he were her
mother.
Freyja has just recently begun to demonstrate more affection for the human
members of our household. She sits on the headboard of our bed, anxiously
waiting for my husband to wake up so she can jump after the light from the
window as it reflects from his watch onto the wall. We call it the Light
Beam Game, and it is her favorite. She also will run up to me when I am
sitting on the couch, touch her nose to mine quickly, and then run away
again. She has quite a spunky spirit, and though she's been with us only a
few months, we couldn't imagine life without her.
