Hello,
world, my name is Zupi. I'm fifteen years old so I spend most of my
time resting. I save up my energy for the important things in life, like
being carried around like a baby, getting brushed, and eating the gravy
from cans of cat food. I also enjoy napping. I like to nap in my "dog
house" on the deck, on the chaise (also on the deck), inside the box
springs, and on top of the refrigerator.
When I was a few weeks old I was found tottering around a yard in the
Atlanta area, crying for my mother. Somehow I'd gotten separated from her,
and since I was too young to feed myself, I was starving. I was pretty
much hairless and my neck was too weak to hold my head up well. The nice
couple who found me dubbed me "ET" due to my wide, bald skull and skinny
neck. They fed me milk and vienna sausages and called my current person to
come adopt me. No one was sure whether I would survive, but I turned out
to be a scrappy little runt. I was so tiny that my new person gave me a
styrofoam packing piece that some stereo parts had come in, and I could
run through it like a rat in a maze. At my new home I also got a big
brother, a tailless male cat named Precious who wasn't particularly
interested in me, but I adopted him as my new mother (much to his dismay)
and followed him around faithfully for the rest of his life (also much to
his dismay).
I've now spent a lifetime being spoiled rotten, watching the world from
over my person's shoulder (I like to be carried like an infant being
burped), and head-butting anyone and anything that'll stand still for a
few seconds. My home is now outfitted with ramps and steps to help me get
around, because I've lost some muscle mass in my back legs as I've aged,
and I'm starting to have some arthritis. Still, my vet says that I'm in
really good shape for my age.
Well, I've been awake for almost five whole minutes sharing my story, so
obviously it's time to get some sleep. Love to all the other runts and
seniors out there. Hold your head up high, if you can. If you can't, lay
it down and take a nap.
Love, Zupi
