This
is my tuxedo cat Snaffy. He was born July 5th 1995, making him fourteen years
old. I got him when I was nine years old and he was just a tiny little kitten.
His feet and tail are all white tipped, as if he stepped in white paint. His
original name was Snowball but quickly changed after we realized he was always
creating a "snafu" where ever he went (Snafu: 1. in disorder; out of control;
chaotic, 2. to throw into disorder; muddle). He used to be quite the terror
as a kitten and young cat but has mellowed out in his old age. He has also
gotten a little chubby over the years, to which my husband has given him the
nicknames "Enormo" and "Spam Kitty", plus many more. He has a house mate
named Maybelline that he sometimes gets along with.
Most of the time he wants to be left alone and have nothing to do with Maybel.
But, when the two of them want something from me or my husband, Snaffy has no
problem teaming up with her in climbing up onto every surface, galloping
around the house, running up and down the stairs at warp speeds, and generally
annoying us until they get what they want. Snaffy's favorite annoyance tactic
is make this low pitched meow that sounds like a cross between howling and
yodeling. It used to get our attention, thinking something was wrong with
him, but now we know better.
Snaffy has an odd knack for getting into trouble in all different ways.
Usually it's just the usual jumping onto the soffit or climbing on top of the
treadmill and dressers. His recent accomplishment has been getting into the
garbage pail. He'll stand with his front paws on the rim of the pail and
after a few tries, the garbage can is spilled all over the floor. After,
he'll run and hide on us, knowing he did something bad. If he wasn't so cute,
and it being so odd for a cat to do, he'd be in serious trouble.
He does do this really cute thing, reserved for people he knows and/or likes.
When you're petting him and he's really happy, he'll climb up on you to head
butt you in the face. The happier he is, the harder he hits you. It's funny
when the person petting him isn't expecting it.
Snaffy enjoys sleeping on cushy surfaces (including people), jumping into open
boxes regardless of how big they are in relation to him, batting rubber bands
and pen caps around the floor, chasing after Maybelline, one word: catnip, and
getting attention (especially when he takes the spot light away from
Maybelline).
About a year ago, we had a little scare with Snaffy's health. He had a
cancerous growth hanging off the tip of his right ear. It constantly bothered
him when he moved his head, it pulled his ear down, and he didn't like it to
be touched. After having it removed (along with the tip of his ear), we
found out it was a malignant growth but they seemed to have gotten rid of all
the cancerous cells. Thankfully he hasn't had any problems since, as this was
very scary for all of us.
As much as a trouble maker Snaffy can be, I don't know what I would do without him.
