This
very handsome boy is my Buddy. Buddy is my very specially boy. I adopted
him when he was about three months old from the Animal Rescue League of Boston's
Brewster branch, just a month after my 17 1/2 year old cat Coco passed away
on Thanksgiving. I thought Sam, Coco's surviving sister and littermate wanted
a friend.
I don't know much about his life before he was rescued. The wonderful people
at the ARL told me he had been found is someone's backyard. He came home on
December 23, a wonderful Christmas present from my parents. He was such a
funny little boy. As you can see, he's still funny, but certainly not little.
He weights a whopping fifteen pounds. When I brought the little guy in for his
first vet visit (with me), the vet laughed and told me I was going to have a
big boy on my hands. He wasn't joking!
As it turned out, Sam really didn't want a "baby brother". She just wanted to
be left alone. So I kept Buddy occupied so he wouldn't harass my old girl.
When Buddy was about a year old, I thought I needed to get him his own feline
baby brother so he had a playmate and Sam could just be a grouch old lady. So
I adopted Tiger just before Christmas. He was a Christmas present from my mom.
(My dad has passed away six months earlier.)
When Tiger came home, Sam ignored him completely and Buddy hissed and growled
at him for six hour (to the minute). From then on, they have been best feline
friends. I think Tiger is a Maine Coon mix. Except for his small size, eleven
pounds, he has all the characteristics of a Coon cat.
I lost Sammie in November, 2008, two years minus one day from the day I lost my
Coco. But I have my beautiful boys to make me laugh.
The first photo of Buddy in the washing machine was taken just the other day. It
was not posed. I was doing laundry and was looking for more clothes to fill up
the machine. I came back into the kitchen and Bud was checking out the dirty clothes.
Buddy is a special boy who's brought a lot of smiles when smiles were really needed.
