My
cat Rocky is a survivor. First, he survived being in a noisy house full of
dogs and kids, then being left at an animal shelter and not being adopted
until he was nearly out of time. Then, he survived being overweight and
getting diabetes. Now, he's a skinny old man with aching joints who gets a
little cranky from time to time, especially with his brother Max. (They
refused to stay in the same place long enough for a picture of them together,
but Max is also a shelter cat.)
But, in his old age, Rocky's also become a cuddly kitty who gets very
frustrated at my knitting and computer use as they interfere with his lap
time. And every night when we go to bed he has to have his tummy scratched.
He can't jump up on the bed as easily as before and overall has slowed way
down but he still enjoys life and petting and cat food.
We adopted Rocky just two weeks after losing our first cat to cancer and I had
no intentions of getting another cat so soon, but in the way of cats, he
insisted on going home with us and I'm still glad years later that he did.
