This
is Zephy, short for (Zephaniah). He is four years old and is one fine boy.
He was rescued as a kitten at Another Chance Animal Rescue in North Berwick,
Maine. Zephy was one of two boys left from a litter. He and his brother looked
almost identical and I had taken a liking to the other kitten at first, when a
mom and three children came in and started playing with him. I took Zephy or (Ben)
as he was called at the shelter; into my arms and we bonded almost instantly.
His brother was adopted by the mom and children.
I took Zephy (and yes, I knew in my heart that that was to be his name) and we
went home to Wells, Maine to meet his slightly older sister Neellah (a lovely
Maine Coon cat), who took an instant dislike to him. Over the years she has
developed some affection and tolerance for him and they sleep on my bed and
play occasionally. They eat together very well and do show concern when one or
the other is not feeling well.
Zephy is especially wonderful around house guests. He loves people with long
legs and laps that he can stretch out on. I am short and round with no
appreciable lap, so he takes advantage of each opportunity that arises when
company comes. He loves to be scratched and snuggled but is extremely ticklish
on his belly. He loves to give gifts and one night, brought me a live mouse in
bed. I'm not afraid of mice, so the gift was not too upsetting. However, the
spider that he put in bed with me was another story altogether!
Zephy is lucky to be alive. He nearly died during that problem with pet food
that contained tainted gluten. He will forever be on a special UR diet and is
one husky and health cat despite his very close brush with death.
I keep pet birds and Zephy has learned a healthy respect for them, especially
when they are out of their cages and free in the living room. He has learned
that they are family - not food or toys. His personality is that of a
schmoozer and lover, LOL. He is just a charm boy and is my best beloved buddy.
Neellah is my precious diva and she is the one who comes to me when I am not
feeling well and in need of comforting, but Zephy is forever ready to play and
make a game of things. He is worthy, I believe, of being honored. I love him,
Neellah and all my furry and feathered friends forever.
