dame, lady of leisure, elegant bluestocking: the elderly yet divine
Flossie is all these things. Her kittenish appearance and tiny stature belie
the fact that she is now well over eighteen years old, but her taste for
sedate living gives the game away. She has had a number of lives, including a
complete change of pace in 2004 when, after thirteen years in rural Hampshire,
she was uprooted to accompany her owner to a new life in central London. Other
cats may have protested at such a lifestyle upheaval, but bustling Kensington
rapidly became Flossie's natural habitat and she is now a proud metropolitan
moggie. She loves to observe activity in the courtyard, and is right at home
in the milieu of ladies-who-lunch (just as long as that lunch is white fish,
followed by white fish). When not sleeping, she enjoys 'working from home,' as
demonstrated by her enjoyment of spinning round on an office chair at
impossibly high speeds and then clambering across the keyboard of a laptop
computer to sharpen her secretarial skills. She is affectionate and gentle,
squeaky and soft - an earnest, companionable presence for nearly two decades.
She turns nineteen next month! We love her.
