This
is Jasper, a very special kitty. He is also known as Jaspy and The
J-Dawg (even though he's very much a cat!).
Jasper is both regal and comical at the same time. He looks as if he crimps
his fur, but his vet told us it's because there is some Rex in his ancestry.
He was originally adopted from a shelter. Jasper came to us as an open
adoption, because his original Mommy fell in love with someone who is
severely allergic to cats.
Jasper likes to sleep in sunny spots in the house and watch the occasional
bird at the window sill. He also likes to carry rubber balls around in his
mouth and drop them down the stairs. Sometimes he snores like an old man! On
the weekends, he likes to wake us up by sticking his wet nose in our ears and
purring. It's very effective! Speaking of purring, Jasper has a very low,
loud, and rumbly purr. Sometimes he purrs so emphatically that his little
whisker pads puff out with each breath. Jasper is also very communicative. He
rips and chews paper and cardboard to get attention, even in the middle of
the night. Jasper also practices yoga - of a sort. He stretches out on his
tummy and points his feet straight behind him, with his toe pads curled
under. I have never seen a cat do anything like this before!
Jasper has us very well trained. We know at dinner time to not sit down
before we have set a miniature plate for Jasper beside the table for a few
choice, nutritious morsels. If it's vegetarian fare, there are always a few
kitty treats available!
Jasper is now about fourteen years old and is starting to slow down a little.
His hips look a little stiff when he walks. But he's young at heart and is
lots of fun to be around.
Jasper and his sister Paka were a huge comfort a couple of years ago when my
previous cat, Bob, died very suddenly and unexpectedly. We love him
tremendously and hope he will be with us for a long, happy life!
