My
wife and I looked for over a year for a new cat. Last December we stopped
by the local animal shelter in Orem, Utah. In the lobby we saw a very young
kitten in a fish tank-like cage. Asking if we might see the kitten the worker
opened the cage and reached in. The kitten went into a hissing fit she did not
like the idea. The worker asked, "Are you sure you want this one? It's a
kitten from a feral cat litter and it's too wild to put in with the other
cats..." We fell in love with her, this is just what we were looking for.
She was given full run of the house and went to the Christmas tree and claimed
it as hers. My wife named her Smudge do to the coloring and the fact she kept
saying "If Smudge keeps running under my feet I'm going to make a smudge of
her." Which of course was never going to happen!
Over the past year she has become one of the best cats we have had. Today she
is leash trained and enjoys her freedom in the half acre back yard. When play
time is over she will come back into the house when called. One of the many
activities she enjoys is playing in water. She will splash the water out of
her water dish and if she finds the toilet lid up (clean water only) she will
spend hours just splashing the water with her paw until the room looks like a
two-year-old was taking a bath.
