This
is my grandkitten, Ghelkyn. His name refers to his glittery gold eyes,
and is a combination of "Ghel," an Indo-European root word that is the
base for the gold/yellowish-green color range and for "gleam," "glow," and
"glitter"... and "Kyn" is a diminutive and incorporates the sound of the word
"eyen," which means "eyes" in Old English. Ghelkyn travels around the
country in an RV with his adopted parents, both of whom work in Renaissance
Faires. His birth parents were feral cats who live near a Ren Faire in
Wisconsin. Ghelkyn and his siblings were caught and taken into the Costume
Shop for socialization and were adopted by various members of the Faire cast
and crew.
He is a happy and mischievous kitten who enjoys bird-watching, post-scratching
and playing with his many toys. Now five months old, he has mastered two
tricks - he can "shake paws" and has learned how to coax extra food from his
automatic feeder by reaching his paw up the chute. Ghelkyn hasn't yet assumed
a role at the Ren Faires - he spends his days keeping the RV bug-free. His
grandparents enjoy babysitting him when comes to visit us in Pennsylvania, and
use every visit as an excuse to document his growth and exploits in
photographs!
