I
came to my forever home from the humane society over seven and half years
after my previous humans abandoned me in February 2003, one of the coldest
Februaries in decades. I wish I could tell my mum why I was abandoned; I guess
those humans didn't love me even though I thought they did.
I was very happy when my new mum appeared and we decided she would adopt me. I
settled in nicely, but it took me about three months before I could trust
enough to decide that Mum belonged to me.
I love it here! I have access to all parts of our home except the furnace
room. I can and do sleep anywhere I want, but my favorite spot is on the
comfy back of the wing chair recliner. In the cooler weather I also love to
park in the basket in front of the fireplace and watch the dancing flames
before I curl up to sleep. At night I often lie beside my mum for a while and
she talks to me as she gives me a gentle massage. I feel extra close to her at
these times.
I am a pretty laid back, but sociable guy. I am thriving here where I can
freely demonstrate my affection and know that it is welcome and reciprocated.
I like to groom my mum; even though she doesn't particularly like it, she
never gets angry with me. In fact, she doesn't get angry with me on the rare
occasion when I misbehave.
I was a little upset a few years ago when, after my being the sole feline in
our home, Mum brought home a little kitten who had been taken from the home of
a man who is not allowed to have cats. My first thoughts were that maybe Mum
was tired of me or didn't love me any more. However, I need not have been
concerned. Mum told me and showed me that she still loved me. After just over
a day, I knew this to be so and accepted the friendship and playfulness of my
newly adopted sister, Alexandra.
Alexandra and I get along very well, playing and sometimes wrestling; we still
often sleep side by side. The first time that Mum went away on holidays
Alexandra was concerned that we had been left forever and she hid from the pet
sitter for a few days. I was able to convince her that Mum loves us and would
not desert us.
I am probably close to eleven years old, but I can still race around although I
don't jump as high as I once could. My mum laughs at my antics and I love to
hear her laughter. I am sensitive to her feelings. When her mum passed away in
2006, I knew she was really sad so for about three weeks I slept by her side.
I know she appreciated that.
In closing and before I hand it over to my mum for a few words, I am so glad
that I have a forever home with a mum who loves me unconditionally.
Hi, I am Solomon's Mum. I think he has summed things up well. I tell him every
day how glad I am that I went to the shelter that day and that we adopted each
other. I love him very much and am grateful that he is part of my life.
