Last
fall I was working with a lady to help her find a home for a cat she
found on her front porch when she told me about a sweet little guy who was
running around her apartment complex abandoned. She said he was a friendly
kitty who had only one eye. It was coming up to Thanksgiving and getting
cold at night and I kept thinking about him, because I didn't think he'd
make through our harsh Michigan winter. So I asked her to catch him for me
which she did. That's how I got Spencer - who is the sweetest little kitty
I've ever seen. After a trip to the vet to get checked out, he made
himself immediately at home. He's only seven pounds and is intimidated by my two
elderly cats but he is best friends with my two younger cats who are his
age. He doesn't let the older cats' hissy fits affect him at all. He
bounces around the house and sounds like a herd of horses racing through.
Spencer is on the go constantly and loves to play with crumpled paper,
bottle caps or miniscule specks on the carpet. He is always hungry and
wants to inspect everything we eat even though he rarely will eat anything
other than cat food. He does like chicken and roast beef and a big
surprise was to see him eat asparagus.
Spencer is my shadow, going wherever I go, as do my two younger cats Missy
and Maggie. My husband calls them the troop because as I go throughout the
house the three of them aren't far behind me.
Spencer's lack of one eye doesn't slow him down a bit. The vet thinks he
was injured somehow because he also has little scars across his nose. He
also has FIV so he's definitely not allowed outside. The vet says he can
live a long life despite having FIV as long as we're careful and monitor
his health closely. Also the other cats can't get it from him. I'm just so
thankful I found him. He is such a joyful little companion and I hope I
have him for many years. It's impossible to imagine life here without him.
