Who
could resist that handsome face??!! It was late October, 2010 and I
was strolling through PetSmart while waiting for my boyfriend to make a
purchase in Best Buy. After tormenting (not really, just watching) the
lizards and birds I meandered my way into the cat department. The usual
array of fanciful furry felines were doing what they do best - snoozing of
course!
One wide-awake female caught my eye - she was a beautiful steel blue color
with gold eyes that were fixed on me as I walked by. The information on
her tag explained that her name was "Maya" and she was a "Manx". Her eyes
followed me as I walked down the row, ending at the larger cage teaming
with playful kittens. There happened to be a volunteer manning the feline
rescue facility and she just happened to be holding the most beautiful
kitten I had ever seen. The volunteer explained his name was "Grayson" and
he was six months old. Very small for a six month old, but his front paws
were huge. She asked if I wanted to hold him and of course my heart
absolutely melted as my arms extended toward the kitty. He turned away
from her, looked at me and literally jumped onto my chest. He climbed up
to my neck and proceeded to "knead" and suckle the tender area of my neck
just under my ear. Everyone thought it was so precious - and yes indeed,
it was!
He was "holding" me captive - I didn't dare move!! All the while he was
kneading and suckling, I could not only hear him breath and purr, but I
could also here him make a chortling or singing sound - exactly like the
cute little animal named "Gizmo" from the movie "Gremlins."
An hour later, my boyfriend and I rolled out of PetSmart with our new
family in tow - Grayson and Maya were going to their forever home. Grayson
is now called "Gizmo" obviously - and yes - he still sings as he kneads
and suckles my neck!! Maya is now named Gracie - because she is so
beautiful, graceful and sweet. Gracie and Gizmo get along great and we are
one very fortunate family to have them both in our lives!!
Huge thanks to PetSmart and all the rescue teams - you are a blessing!
