My
name is Cyrus and I just passed over to Rainbow Bridge, at age 20. I
used to be a pretty big cat, but got kinda skinny at the end. I have to
say though, that for all those years I had the most wonderful life with my
human mom and dad. I don't remember my cat mom at all. For some reason, my
humans thought I was a male kitten when I was born, and named me after
Billy Ray Cyrus who was all the rage at the time, but I didn't mind.
As a kitten I always slept in my mom's hand while she was sleeping, Later
when I got too big for that, I would sleep with my paw in her hand, and
for the rest of my life, I slept either next to her, hugging her arm, or
if she was sleeping on her side, I would just climb right up on her and
zonk out. I did that right to the very end. I liked to read books in bed
with my dad, but always had to sleep with my mom.
I lived in Florida for most of my life and shared the house with another
Siamese cat. After fifteen years there, Dad decided to move to Texas and so he
packed up all us inside and outside cats and a dog and headed off. I lived
here in Texas for almost six years. It is really too hot here, but thank
goodness I was a spoiled inside cat and did not have to go outside at all.
Watching goats, cows, donkeys, chickens, and ducks... plus herons, egrets,
cardinals, and rosette spoonbills from the huge windows was fun. Hearing
about snakes, raccoons, possums, coyotes, and bobcats just made me all the
more glad I was always an inside cat!!
I am going to really miss my mom, but know I will see her again
eventually. Now I want to thank her for spoiling me and loving me and
teaching me how to use the computer, which is why I am the one who is
writing this. I had been writing to other cats, and even a dog, on the
Internet for quite a few years, and just wish I had had the time to teach
the cat I have been sharing my mom and dad with all these years, how to
write and take over my pen pal duties. But alas, she is probably much too
ignorant I am afraid. I loved looking at all of you on Cat of the Day all
these years too. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, I was also a
"Hemingway cat"... you know... polydactyl... multiple toes... big feet. Or
as I personally preferred, "I had catcher's mitts on my front feet!"
Anyway, I had a terrific life and I am so sorry Mommy is having such a
hard time with me being gone. I know we will be together again one of
these days, and want her to stop crying whenever she thinks of me, and
just remember all the great years we had together!
