Bella
is an eight-year old yellow tabby who allows me to live with her in
Webster, New York. I got her when I answered an ad for a free "kitten"
(she was actually one year old). The good news was that she was already
spayed. She wasn't at all what I wanted in a kitten, but when my friend
and I got to the house, I felt sorry for her. The family didn't seem to
care at all about getting rid of her and they had separated her from her
brother that she had been with since birth (they had recently given him
away, also)!! I gave them my name and phone number, but they never called
to see how she was doing.
When I got her home, she was very disoriented, nervous and scared.
Whenever I was home, she would insist I sit doen so she could get in my
lap. If I got up to do something, she would cry continuously and follow me
from room to room. When after three months, nothing had changed, I was very
concerned about whether I could ever calm her down as I needed to sleep
and it was very difficult. Luckily, at that time, my daughter was moving
and couldn't take her cat to the new apartment, so her cat came to live
with Bella and me. That has helped tremendously. Even though her sister is
much older, they still play from time to time and enjoy each other's
company.
Another thing that has helped Bella is that I bought three Window Perches and
have them in three of the main windows and Bella loves them. She often sleeps
on one of them overnight. As you will see from the pictures, she also
likes to "pose" on them. She gets so carried away that she has fallen off
several times.
Bella has been a challenge over the years as she has an endless curiosity
about everything which often leads to trouble. As a consequence, she is in
the process of writing her autobiography! Each chapter is a true story of
an event in her life, most of them getting into trouble!
If anyone had asked me if I would spend $600 for surgery on a cat who ate
something she shouldn't have, I would have laughed... until it happened a
few years ago. One of the pictures is of Bella in her Princess Bed that I
made her when she came home from surgery. That was when I discovered that
my cats are actually my fur-covered children, with a permanent place in my
heart. I call Bella my special needs kitty as she is very special to me!
