Denali
is a gentle, loving cat who likes nothing more than cuddling with
his humans. Ok, that's not entirely true. He also likes eating string.
He's not picky, he'll eat anything that resembles a string from cords off
the blinds, to shoelaces, to rubber cords on jackets. Thankfully, he has
yet to eat power cords. His other favorite activity is sleeping. I know he
is in a deep sleep when his entire head is facing down on whatever surface
he is on and you can't hear him snoring. The first time I saw this I
thought he was dead.
Denali is an indoor only cat and though he thinks he wants to investigate
the great outdoors, he never goes very far (a few feet at most) once he
escapes. The minute he does manage to step 'outside' he goes into crouch
mode as if he thinks the smaller he looks the more he will be protected.
He also adopts this crouch mode whenever a storm is upon us. The lower to
the ground he is, the safer he feels.
Neurotic to his core, he is nonetheless a gentleman and behaves himself
accordingly. He will greet visitors expectantly and if he is displeased
with you for say, going on holiday without him, he will sit with his back
to you as if giving you the cut direct.
As a senior cat, Denali sleeps a lot but he still enjoys playtime and when
tussling with his brothers, will become very vocal. He is not being hurt,
that is just his way of communicating! To someone who doesn't know this it
might seem like he is in fact dying for all the caterwauling he emits. As
the oldest cat in the family Denali is also the caretaker. He grooms
everyone, his humans included, and will curl up next to any and all warm
bodies. He has the uncanny ability to tell when a movie is almost over and
picks that exact time to come sit on your lap. Perhaps he doesn't like our
taste in movies and will only deign to join us for the last few minutes.
We are very lucky to have found Denali at the local animal shelter and he
has been making us smile for twelve years now!
