This
is Elmer, our beloved Maine Coon. He died January 14, 2009 of
complications of CRF (Chronic Renal Failure). We got him for ourselves as a
wedding present, and he was the best. Even as a baby he was full of
personality. He was gentle and playful and affectionate. He was a great
hunter, and brought a full-sized squirrel in through his cat door before he
was a year old. He also "hunted" the mailman during the summer, and any big
dog that came into the yard. One of my most embarrassing moments with him was
when he chased a German shepherd, with its owner at the other end of the
leash, all the way down our street. Elmer loved to sit out in the backyard
in the winter - here he is waiting for a snack at the bird feeder! He also
loved his brother Benny ( a short hair rescue tabby cat). They were
inseparable. When Elmie became too ill to go out, we started every morning at
the cat door with Elmie chirping for Benny, who would run in and greet him
with a nose kiss. He slept between us every night, and loved to stick one
very sharp claw into a finger or toe as a "love pat" every now and then to
make sure we were awake! We miss him very much.
