Lulu
was rescued from a neighborhood in Los Angeles in May of 1997. She
was found by an elderly woman who was unable to take care of her, so my
best friend who lived across the street called to insist I take Lulu home,
that she was one in a million. I drove down to the house, and was
instantly smitten with this black and white angel who never shut up from
the time I laid eyes on her until the time I was able to get her safely
tucked into her new home. It's been love ever since... and she's still
jabbering happily away! In her infrequent quiet moments, her little pink
cork of a tongue pokes out to consider her next option, or to softly give
her Mom a gentle kiss on the cheek.
Were she in another life, she would be a mouser, but in this life hotel
slippers are her favorite "mice" - they mysteriously appear plopped at the
top of my stairs every day from underneath my bed, in a practically
perfect line across the carpet, and I accept them in the spirit of
thanksgiving in which she offers them.
Recently a friend of mine, who is an Animal Portraitist, asked me to send
a picture of Lulu to her, so that she could paint her portrait to enter
into an art exhibition. The picture you see of Lulu is what I sent, and
the result is the Lulu portrait I have submitted as well (JaneRobertsArt
on Facebook in case you want to explore further). I was so touched by the
essence and soul of Lulu that she captured, the beauty of my beloved girl,
and I am thrilled with the result. This is something I will treasure
forever, as I will my darling Lulu.
For fourteen years "Lulubelle, the cat from hell", "Screwloose", "Luli B" has
been the wise matriarch, the oracle, the sage, the chatterbox, and the
delight of the household. Call me crazy, but when Lulu "speaks" to me, I
know she is speaking from her soul right into mine. I have listened to
every meow, every growl, every possible intonation of her distinct
language, and I have learned from this extraordinary girl. She is a
treasure from the Universe, and one of the great gifts of my life.
Imagine how proud I am to be the mother of the Cover Girl!:)
