I
adopted Nutsy from an animal shelter where my brother-in-law works.
Every now and them I would go in visit the dogs and stop by the cat room
just to look around. If I was ever to adopt one I thought I wanted a
tuxedo but one day, in a cage on the bottom row at foot level, I saw the
cutest little face that reminded me so much of a cat from my childhood. I
had to "test her out" and spent some time with her in the visitation room.
She was quiet but not too shy and let me pick her up and cuddle her. I
went back the next day. I was first on the adoption list so when she
became available she became mine. She was brought to the shelter by
someone who found her in a trap he had set for some other animal in his
yard but caught Nutsy instead. I thank that man for doing the right thing
and bringing her to the shelter. The staff and vet estimated her age then
to be about a year and a half. The tip of her left ear is missing so we
don't know if she was injured or perhaps caught before and marked as a
stray that way.
She makes me laugh because one of her favorite spots to settle in is by
the refrigerator where she will stare at the back of it. I don't know what
that attraction is. She also likes to stare into the gas fireplace when
the fire is burning. I forgot how affectionate cats can be, she is
certainly a cuddler, especially during the winter months. When I give her
treats she knows the "sit" command but that's about all the success I've
had at training her. She doesn't really seem attracted to catnip toys but
loves feathers, a tiny chirping mouse and, of course, a laser. Nutsy is great!
