My
name is Smurfee and my mom found me through a Craig's List ad in October
2009. She wasn't looking for another cat as she had five at the time, but the ad
showed a picture of me in some man's yard and I was very sick. The man said I
was like that for five days and was asking for someone to come get me and take
me to the vet, or have me put down. He said he couldn't afford to help me
and I was a stray living under his house. So mom saved me and I was in the
hospital for nine days. I had a very bad upper respiratory infection and a
terrible, smelly bacterial infection in my nose. The vet and staff called me
"Stinky". I was very skinny too, because I hadn't eaten for a while. As you
can see from my picture today, I am doing so much better! The doctors say I
will have Chronic Respiratory Disease all my life and so I'm usually
snuffley, sneezey and my nose is runny. I wouldn't eat dry food for a year
because I couldn't smell it, but now I do and love it.
I am so lucky to have a good home now and not live under a house outside.
One game I love to play is when mom drags me all over the house in my tent or
sometimes I will attack my tent and it will collapse flat and I ride on that
like a sled! Another favorite toy is my little stuffed possum, which I carry
everywhere. I have three other cat house-mates and one of them, Lukey, loved me
from the start. He washes my face and never caught my cold because he's big
and strong like bull. And I like to sing. I shrill hum all through the house
and mom said she never heard a cat sing like me. You always know where I am
because I'm singing or you can hear my noisy nose. I love to snuggle and I
love people. When I meet you for the first time, I usually will rest my paw
on your arm like howdy do! People are surprised at how friendly I am "for a
cat". Whatever that means. I'm really thankful mommy looked at Craig's List
that day, because if she didn't maybe I wouldn't be here.
From mom: He's just the sweetest most affectionate cat and comes bounding to
the door when I come home, always doing his chirpy song. He stands up on my
leg wanting to be picked up so he can snuggle under my neck. He also loves to
watch me cooking and reminds me he's there by nibbling my ankle.
