Wegie
is very special to us. We live in a rural area and have always been
a "cat shelter" for that reason. Folks go by and dump off cats and kittens
thinking that the country is a good place for them to live, as they can
"hunt and kill" for their food. Unfortunately, more often than not, they
become food rather quickly. We have been a home for many a stray. Once
they are outdoor cats, they always seem to yearn for the outdoors and try
as me might, we cannot seem to keep them indoors. Over the span of a few
escapes, they never come back. This has broken our hearts many times.
Wegie is the first cat I have actually spent up-front money for. Why a
Norwegian Forest Cat? Well, the breed loves human, is playful, gentle and
a larger sized breed. Because we bought him from a breeder, he has never
been outdoors. We are hoping that he will not crave it and will be with us
for a long, long time!
Wegie is a wonderful cat. He actually sleeps in our room and is always
quiet as a church mouse, until one of us gets up during the night. At that
point you can hear his purring getting louder and louder as he approaches
and then feel his soft little cheek as he presses against your face,
followed by the total free-fall plopping of his soft little body right
next to you. Sometimes when I wake up he is actually sleeping right next
to me with his head on the pillow, just like a human. He wants to be near,
but isn't a lap cat. He is a companion and friend. I hope we will have
many happy years enjoying his company and friendship.
