What
makes Murphy so special is throughout his life, despite three major
surgeries - the most recent was two years ago and was life-threatening -
he is as devoted an animal companion you could want. We bonded when I
first rescued him as a kitten and when I am home, we are inseparable.
We've seen some very hard times together including right now (almost a
year of unemployment for me). No matter what, he is always there for me.
No matter how bad a day I have, seeing those bright green eyes lifts my
spirits.
Despite his age, he still loves to chase and wrestle with his (many) toys.
His favorite toy is a yarn-catnip ball. He is very affectionate and while
he can be aloof, he prefers to get into the middle of whatever I'm doing.
One thing he insists upon is to get water from the bathtub faucet, which I
call "getting his water on draft." He'll sit in the tub waiting for hours
though fresh, filtered water is always available. He also a morning
routine where he'll hit me in the face with a paw (he's a lefty) to check
on me, then he'll go to the kitchen to be fed. He actually waits for
approval, then digs in. Then it's off to bathtub.
His favorite game is to stalk me from the living room sofa something like
hide-and-seek. He'll jump onto the sofa and meow until I stop whatever I'm
doing to play with him. And he'll play for a good hour! Repeat this at
least three nights a week. ;-)
This little fellow is truly my heartbeat, and I am thankful to be the
lucky guy who gets to open the cat food cans every morning.
