This
is Merlin. My husband and I adopted Merlin from a local Oahu cat
rescue group. We had recently lost our fourteen-year-old Oriental Shorthair who
left a huge hole in our lives.
Merlin's original owner had died. Merlin and another cat in were left in
an apartment under the care of a friend. The cat rescue group didn't even
know Merlin's name and had no idea of his history. What was clear is that
sometime in his life, someone had filed all four of Merlin's canine teeth
until they were square.
My husband, not known to be a cat person, gave Merlin his name before we
even reached our car as we took him home from PetCo. It turned out to be
very appropriate as Merlin charms everyone he meets.
A week after we adopted him, we took Merlin to our vet. He wasn't eating
and looked a bit jaundiced. We found out that Merlin was in liver failure
as a result of toxoplasmosis. Merlin spent a week and a half in the
veterinary hospital. He would live but his recovery was predicted to be a
long one. We had to get him to eat by himself again. However, after about
two weeks, Merlin was eating on his own and recovering faster than anyone
expected.
Two and half months later, Merlin is a happy, healthy, very mischievous
cat. He is playful and quite the sweet little kitty. He seems to have a
sense of humor and loves to ambush unsuspecting humans, swatting at their
ankles to get them to play with him. His feline roommate, Jazmyn, isn't so
keen about him, but we love him to pieces!
