This
handsome boy is Nicodemus (Nicky). He started his life (or so I'm
told) on the mean streets of Sanford, Maine as a stray. He now lives in
a town called Wells. He is a rescue kitty and was adopted by my upstairs
neighbor as an adult cat. He weighs about twenty pounds and is mostly muscle
now. When he first came to live in our building he was just skin and bones.
When his adopted mom Janet saw him, she knew that he was special and
indeed he is. He is an 'angel cat' sent into Janet's life at a time when
she was grieving the loss of her beloved Lily cat who died from breast
cancer. Lily was a sweet old girl and it hit us very hard when she
passed, especially as Janet herself is a breast cancer survivor.
Nicky has had a lot of health problems from the outset. We believe that
he most likely had been hit by a car at some point in his youth as he is
lame on his right hind quarters and has difficulty landing on his feet
when he jumps down from the couch to the floor. When he came here, he
had an ear infection, skin lesion, upper respiratory infection and
malnutrition. Having been a 'people' nurse and veterinarian-wanna-be, I
took charge of Nicky's health care. I have never been afraid to handle
animals and I guess Nicky sensed that I knew what I was doing. I visit
Nicky and his mom upstairs on a daily basis and he comes to me without
fear, to have his pills, ear drops, ointments and other treatments
administered as needed.
I have been dubbed Nicky's 'Auntie' and am sometimes called "Doctor
Marie" by Janet's son who also adores and is adored by Nicky. I have
grown to love him Nicky as much as I love my own two beautiful kitties.
Nicky has healed my heart on many an occasion by virtue of his purrrfect
personality which exudes love and kindness despite his rough history.
He is such a wonderful kitty that I believe he should be 'cat of the
day' for once in his life. He is one of the most intelligent and knowing
cats that I have encountered and I've had lots of cats in my 63 years on
this planet.
I hope you all enjoy these pictures of this fine boy. He loves everyone
that comes through the front door. Look deep into his eyes and you'll
see that there's just something special about Nicodemus.
