Kismet
found his way into our lives when he was a young stray. Both
Kismet and his sister Xena were abandoned as kittens in our
neighborhood. My husband found and adopted the boy kitten and his
brother adopted the girl kitten. We live two streets away from each
other and often talk about bringing Kismet and his sister together for a
reunion one day.
Kismet has the most beautiful yellow-green eyes and he has the trademark
tuxedo markings that make him look like he is wearing little white
boots. He has unusually long whiskers and his fur is extremely silky.
Even though Kismet's fur is coal black, when he lays in the sun you can
see faint brown stripes in his fur which is very unique. Kismet has
always had a very adventurous nature and has been a faithful companion
to our family. He was raised along with our beagle and as a result the
two have a very good natured, playful relationship. When Kismet was
about four years old he became very ill one day and required several trips
to the vet. After ruling out various medical issues the vet performed
exploratory surgery and removed leaf, branch, and other miscellaneous
debris from his digestive system. He had eaten a houseplant we had
gotten after the death of a family member and in an ironic twist of fate
it nearly cost him one of his nine lives. That experience made Kismet
even more attached to our family and I am happy to report that he hasn't
had any more misadventures with food since that incident.
Kismet enjoys hanging out in our fenced in backyard and watching the
birds and scenery for short periods of time. He has a penchant for
terrorizing my husband and will always seek out the laundry basket with
the clean clothes in it to sleep on. He has even gone as far as climbing
into the dryer just to sleep on my husband's clean clothes! He will
drink out of any cup you leave on a counter or endtable and when he is
done taking a drink he will often push the cup over for dramatic effect.
Many times Kismet has gotten on top of my dresser and absconded with a
ring or earring. He loves to sit on top of our dishwasher and if he is
in just the right mood will give you a "Kismet kiss" with his nose (but
only if nobody else is watching, he does have a reputation to uphold!).
Kismet has been a loving addition to our family and even has his own
facebook page where he has been known to make some very funny
commentaries on his life as a cat.
