This
funny looking guy is Tiger. He's a wonderful little boy. He was a
Christmas present from my mom in 2007.
I had a very elderly cat, Sam, and Buddy, who was just a year old when I
adopted Tiger. Buddy needed a young cat for company. I tried to find a
suitable kitten at my favorite local shelter, the Brewster branch of the
Animal Rescue League of Boston. They had some really wonderful cats, but
just not a good choice for Buddy. Around that time, a friend's landlord
had a momma cat who had just weaned kittens including a fluffy little boy
who needed a home. So, I adopted him. His momma cat lived about 100 miles
from me. So I met my friend half way, if you're familiar with Cape Cod, at
the Christmas Tree Shop at the Cape Cod Canal. The Christmas Tree Shop's
slogan is "Don't you just love a bargain!" and what a fabulous bargain I
got!
Tiger is just full of personality. He's never met a person he doesn't
like. Another friend dubbed him a rockstar kitty because of his outgoing
personality and long mane. He'll play for hours with guests and will groom
your fingers and toes until they're raw if you give him half a chance.
I think he's really cute, but funny looking, kind of like a "leftover"
cat. He looks like he's made up of pieces of other cats, a Frankenstein
kitty. He has huge eyes and very long whiskers, but rather small ears.
Part of him has longhair, shorthair and medium length hair. As you can
see, he has a gorgeous mane. The fur on his front legs is short. The fur
on his back is medium length and the fur on his tummy and hind legs is
long, except below the ankles, which is short. He has a bottle-brush tail
which is just a little too short for his body. His paws are huge, but he's
small, only twelve pounds. He has tiger stripes on his face, front legs and
along his sides. But his back is solid dark grey. His tail is dark grey on
the topside and tan on the bottom side. But he's the softest kitty I've
ever touched.
He's also a very sweet boy. Just before my Sam passed away, Tiger would
cuddle up to her to keep her warm. My last photo of Sam, the day before
she passed away, was with Tiger, him keeping her warm.
Tiger loves to hunt flying bugs, but has no interest in spiders,
unfortunately. He's also a pretty good mouser for the occasional mouse
that finds its way into my house. He also loves to watch the birds at the
feeder. He also really, really loves his cardboard box forts. He does not
like to travel at all. He really freaks out when he has to go for a drive,
like to the vet, otherwise, I'd consider making him a therapy pet. I've
tried walking him on a leash, but he doesn't like the feel of grass on his
paws.
Tiger and Buddy are very good friends. Buddy is a big cat, has a good
three pounds on Tiger. But Tiger tries his hardest to beat Buddy in a
friendly wrestling match. He usually loses. They're too funny to watch.
