Where
do I even begin with Schrodinger? I picked him out when he was only
a week old. Out of his litter, he was the only orange one. I felt like we
were kindred spirits because I too, have red hair. He was an ornery little
squirt even as a blind little kitten! He was stepping all over his
brothers and sisters and I just knew he needed to be mine.
I debated over names for quite some time, and finally settled on a name
that meant something to both me and Brig, the cat's human father. Brig is
an astrophysicist and enjoys studying many scientists, and Schrodinger is
one of the most famous. He had a theory that involved a cat, and although
I still don't quite understand the science behind it, I liked the unique
sounding name and it made Brig happy, so it stuck!
When he was a few months old, I was finally able to take him home! Growing
up I always had cats, I think I had about eight through the years and none of
those cats were like Schrody. When I picked him up, I figured he would be
very shy and that perhaps he would hide under the bed. However, this was
not the case! He was exploring everything! He was all over the place and
so ready to play. He was also incredibly vocal ... he meowed all of the
time! It cracked me up. He amazes me with how happy he always is. He rolls
around all over the ground, constantly wants attention, and plays with
whatever he can get his little paws on.
There is one thing that really does make Schrody stand out though - one
night just after we got Schrody, Brig was sitting and doing his homework
and apparently Schrodinger brought him one of his toys and meowed until
Brig acknowledged him. Brig was slightly frustrated, so he just tossed the
toy hoping the cat would let him have some peace. Much to Brig's
amazement/confusion, the cat brought back the toy right away and put it
down right in front of Brig! Brig, being new to the cat thing, was puzzled
because he didn't think cats really played fetch ... but little
Schrodinger played fetch for a good twenty minutes! The next day, Brig
told me of his discovery and I had to test this little trick our cat did,
and sure enough, Schrody played fetch - very well! I never had a cat play
fetch before... but to this day, when Shrody wants to play fetch, he will
bring you one of his many toys and put it right on your feet, or right on
your face if you are sleeping!
Schrody is a climber, an explorer, and a huge joy! I love him so much and
everyday he makes me laugh. He traveled in the car across the country with
me, which is amazing. From Utah to Indiana, he sat in the front seat. He
was so well behaved, and an excellent driving companion! He always makes
people smiley, but mostly me. :)
