This
is Sugar a.k.a. little monkey, or tin tin (Filipino nickname)! Sugar
is about sixteen years old and before she adopted us she actually lived
with my wonderful mother- and father-in-law. Sadly, my mother-in-law
passed away a few years ago and her husband returned to the Philippines.
He missed his wife very much but was surrounded by loving family members
until sadly, he too has passed way.
My father-in-law had a unique way of calling Sugar in Tagalong (Filipino
language) He would call out "Muning" and to this day Sugar's ears prick up
when she hears it.
Sugar came to live with us and of course she truly loved her original
parents very much and for us it was not love at first sight. She was very
standoffish with me and it took a while but she eventually grew to accept
me in her own way.
I will always remember this very bitter sweet moment for we were coming
home from an outing Sugar was sitting in the window looking outside; I
tapped on the glass and I don't think she realized it was me and must have
thought it was my mother-in-law because the look on her face and her
reaction immediately suggested she thought I was.
Sugar was also raised on a lot of people food plus cat food and she never
had dry food therefore she refuses to eat dry food to this day but I think
that is why she is a skinny cat even though she eats a lot of food (just
my opinion). We have to keep changing her cat food for she gets bored
quickly. Sometimes she acts like we are a nuisance and will let you hold
her for ten seconds... then she actually collapses in your arms and hugs
you back and this is such an extreme honor I cannot tell you.
Sugar has odd habits like chewing on house plants but the oddest one is
plastic bags. She loves to chew on those and they upset her tummy so we
have to hide all plastic bags in the house, which are bad for the
environment anyway.
My spouse totally spoils her and she adores him. They seem to have a real
bond. A few years ago we moved from a house into an apartment and we
wondered how she would adapt and so far so good and under careful
supervision she loves the balcony.
I doubt she will ever be as happy as she was with her original parents but
we try to accommodate her needs and love her as much as we can and we
really do love her a lot! There are days when Sugar is ill and I get
worried that this is it... but she always bounces back! She keeps us in
check!
