This
is Mr. Baskim. I don't know how old he is because he was grown when
we found each other, but he's been my roommate for eight years. I also
don't know what his breed is because we've never gotten around to
discussing it. He got his name from an old Jerry Lewis movie... Who's
Minding the Store... there is a Great Dane that Jerry dog-sits named Mr.
Baskim. And it was just perfect for my little man.
He is the most special little guy ever to me. He was a stray that lived in
my neighborhood and he learned my schedule. He would greet me every
morning before I went to work and come running when he saw me coming home.
I eventually realized he was on his own, so I put a bed and food/water
dishes in an outside garage. I already had an indoor cat, Morty, and
wanted to keep him safe, so I didn't allow the stray inside.
One morning, though, I saw the stray had been horribly beaten up. Not sure
by what, but I think it might have been an opossum. Long story short,
after taking him to the vet, getting him fixed up and tested, I was too
attached to let him go. So he moved in with me and Morty and it's been one
of the best things that's ever happened to us.
Mr. Baskim is special because he is always ready to snuggle up with me. I
love sitting on the couch with him while I read and he naps in my lap.
Sometimes he will stretch out with his front paws straight out like
Superman and he looks so funny!
If I hold my hand out flat over his head, he will stand up on his back
legs and bump his head on my hand so he gets a petting. He will come to
you when you call him. But don't try to play ball or mouse with him. He
couldn't care less about that.
Giving a homeless animal a place to call their own is better than anything
in the world!
