This
is Tiglet. Earlier in 2011, she was diagnosed with diabetes and in
September 2011, with kidney failure. She is an extremely special little
girl who has been fighting a hard battle for months. Despite all the
medications and injections she receives on a daily basis, she hardly gives
us any hassle. She certainly deserves the recognition for her fight with
these two terrible diseases.
I was first blessed with Tiglet when she was eight weeks old. I knew from the
start she was the one for me. We connected at a pet store but I left as I
was unsure about taking on the responsibility of cat ownership. That
evening when I went home, I called the pet store, put a hold on her and
the next day, she came home. It is now eight years later.
She has a spunky, can do anything attitude and even though she has
diabetes and kidney failure (diagnosed this year), most days, you wouldn't
even know she was sick. She enjoys spending the days watching Freddy (her
bird friend that visits often in the backyard) and most recently has made
another new friend named Theodore (a chipmunk whom she has taken a liking
to). Tiglet is an adventurer and is most content when she is around mommy
and daddy. While she appreciates alone time, her best days are spent with
us as she just adores all the attention. Let's not forget that she is also
very smart. She understands a lot of dialogue between people and often you
can find Tiglet just listening in. She listens to commands and fully
understands them although she still has that "I'll do it when I am ready
attitude!". Some examples of the commands that we have trained Tiglet with
are "are you hungry", "what's wrong (where she will meow for food)", "do you
want to go outside and see your friends", "where is Janie (this is her
sister cat)", "come up (when we require her to jump on a chair", "are you a
good girl (she proceeds to want to be petted and start purring".
We share a very special bond with Tiglet. I have never been as proud of
her as I have been recently especially with her fight with diabetes and
kidney failure. Everyone that she meets, whether it be at her regular
weekly vet visits or even just being outside with us, always comments on
how quirky she is and how responsive she is. They always say "she is just
like a dog and not a cat!!". Tiglet loves associating with other animals
such as dogs and has no fear of life. She makes friends wherever she goes
and I couldn't ask for a more loving and rewarding friendship than with
Tiglet. She has taught me what unconditional love is and what someone will
do to try to protect and help their cat by every means necessary. She is
my best friend and she will always be.
