This
is Bonnie Blue and Banjo, two sisters who were "foster failures" and
are best friends. They are now 1 1/2 years old, and we have known them
since birth. We discovered two female stray cats in our neighborhood in
March 2010. It turned out both were pregnant and delivered their kittens
together on April 11, 2010. We discovered the kittens in the bushes across
the street from our house. The mothers combined both litters into one, for
a total of eleven kittens. We moved both mothers and all the kittens to our
garage for a nursery. We did not know which kittens belong to which
mother. At feeding time it was just pick-a-mother. On day eleven we lost one
of the kittens so we were down to ten now.
During the first week in the garage I set up a webcam on the kittens and
began broadcasting 24/7. We ran the webcam for two months and during this
time we had over 13,000 viewers tune in from all around the globe.
When the kittens were old enough we had found homes for two of the kittens
and one of the mothers. During this time we became failed foster parents
and fell in love with Banjo & Bonnie Blue. We hated to see the rest
leave but thanks to Brookhaven Animal Rescue League they took the other
mother and six kittens and found all of them homes.
Our two girls love getting in the windows and watching all the birds,
squirrels, rabbits and even deer that visit our backyard. These two are
almost inseparable. When you see one the other is always close by. They
are a great additions to our family of 5.5 cats other cats (The .5 is
another rescue we found a week ago - fourteen-week-old kitten - and are currently
fostering). A house with eight cats is a lot of cat fur. But we wouldn't give
up these girls for anything now!
Our two girls are very special to us. Banjo has a thing for shoelaces, in
or out of shoes. One of her favorite toys is several bright orange
shoelaces tied in a bundle. Banjo and Bonnie Blue love the Turbo
Scratcher. They will sit on opposite sides and bat the ball around to each
other. The girls also enjoy playing chase through the house with our
Socks. Banjo now is starting to play with Spooky, our newest rescue.
Spooky is about fifteen weeks old and solid black. Bonnie Blue isn't quite ready
for Spooky play yet, but she will get there in her own time.
