Berkeley
may be tiny (two pounds) but she is "top" cat at our house. She
is full of energy and loves to play with her two cat brothers, Syd (eight) and
Cornelius (four). She was living in a hot garage with no A/C in the middle of
a 100 degree summer in Texas when we rescued her. When we saw her cute
little black face and blue eyes we could just not resist taking her home.
If you are wondering about her name, all of our cats have some sort of
Pink Floyd and/or Planet of the Apes reference in their names. My oldest
cat is Syd Floyd (Floyd is in the name of the band, Syd is the original
lead singer). My middle cat is Cornelius Eugene (from the song "careful
with that axe Eugene") and Cornelius is a Planet of the Apes reference.
Berkeley's full name is Berkeley Zaius (Berkeley is the middle name of
Nick Mason, the guitarist for Pink Floyd) and Zaius is a Planet of the
Apes reference.
She loves to chase her fat eighteen-pound brother Cornelius around the
house. She will literally jump right onto his head or stomach and start
wrestling with him! We see her walking around with black tufts of his hair
sticking out of her mouth! But her brother adores her and will spend 15
minutes afterwards licking her to death.
It is hot in the summer in Texas, so I usually keep all of the blinds
closed to keep it cool in the house, except for one window so the cats can
still see the birds outside. This window creates one small sunny spot on
the carpeting and Berkeley loves to take her cat nap in it! She is truly a
wonderful addition to our cat family! We love her!
