Eve
found our doorstep on November 25, 2009, the day before Thanksgiving.
She was a tiny little six-week-old kitten. My mom heard meowing out on the
porch and rushed outside, thinking one of our cats had gotten loose. Eve
ran right up to my mom and she picked her up instinctively, instantly
realizing that Eve was definitely not one of our cats! Eve was very
friendly, in stark contrast to the wild kitten we'd rescued a few months
earlier named Malibu. She really wanted attention and love from us. I
think she was handled by people prior to us finding her. I don't know how
she ended up lost and alone, but I'm glad she found the right doorstep.
I put up flyers and posted online, but I didn't get any responses. I
decided that I couldn't keep Eve or the other kitten, Malibu, because at
the time I had an old cat, Amber, who didn't like other cats. I put Eve up
for adoption. I didn't get many responses, but I was willing to wait until
the right home came along.
In the meantime, I started to let Malibu interact with Eve under the door.
At first, they were a little cautious of each other and hissed briefly,
but they quickly started to play. They would play under the door until I
had to put Malibu away. I wanted to wait a while before I let them meet
each other, but one day, my mom decided to let introduce them. At the time
I was upset about it, but luckily, after a bit of a nervous introduction,
they became fast friends. They've been inseparable ever since.
They were best friends. I decided that I couldn't split them up. I was
growing so attached to these kittens, and finding a home for two bonded
cats isn't always easy. So I finally decided to keep them both. I just had
to manage them so they didn't bother the older cats. It wasn't going to be
easy, but I couldn't give them away.
I am so glad I made that decision! Eve makes my life so interesting. She
is the oddest cat I have ever known. I discovered rather quickly that she
fetches. I also discovered that she isn't afraid of getting wet. When I
finish taking a bath, she waits for it to drain a bit, gets in the bathtub
when there are still a few inches of water, and watches the water go down
the drain. Once, she decided to jump in while the bathtub was still full.
She hasn't tried that again. She has so many weird quirks that it'd take
all day to list them.
Eve makes me laugh so much. I admit that she can also be very frustrating
at times, but I'd rather have an interesting cat that gets on my nerves
than a boring cat that doesn't do anything! She can also be very sweet and
loves to cuddle. I really love Eve for all of her endearing, and even her
not-so-endearing-to-others qualities. She is such a unique cat and I don't
think I'll ever have another quite like her.
