Hi,
I'd like to honor my cat Ezzie. Ezzie is a real survivor. I adopted
her from the Victoria SPCA, where she had been turned in as a wandering
street cat. I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her in her cage and
took her home, where she lived with me and my other cat, Martha.
One day, a few years later, while I was out, there was a kitchen fire at
my house. The house did not burn down, but there was significant smoke
damage. Martha, unfortunately, succumbed to the smoke, and Ezzie was
nowhere to be found. I had to move out while the house was cleaned and
repaired. For several days I and my friend hunted for Ezzie in my
neighborhood, all to no avail. I was heart-broken. Then my niece said "I
bet you anything she's still in the house." So I returned to the house at
night when none of the clean-up crew was around, and called her. Sure
enough, I heard the faint tap-tap of little paws. Apparently she had
clawed her way into the wall behind my dryer and had hidden there for
several days. She saved herself from smoke inhalation! I was so happy to
find her alive and well. She went to the hospital to get re-hydrated and
was given a bath. She lived with me in a hotel for several months until my
house was OK to move back into. We are now happily back in our comfortable
home with her new brother Josh, another black longish haired cat whom she
tolerates - just barely!
