I
would like to nominate our black Maine Coon named Benjie. He is a rescue
cat that we were lucky enough to adopt when he was six months old. We got
him from the local SPCA (as we have all of our cats). He had been there
for approximately three months and was the last of a litter of six. Everyone
kept passing by his cage without even noticing him. I guess because he was
black. But, I saw him with his paws outstretched and knew he needed a
loving family. We had originally gone there to pick a cat for my husband
and mom (she passed away three months later). They each wanted their own
special cat to love and Benjie was to be my moms. My husband had already
decided on his cat and Benjie was to be my mom's. He had been named
Midnight but my mom asked if she could name him Benjie. Of course, but he
bonded with my husband and his cat bonded with my mom. We have four inside
cats who we love dearly but Benjie is our gentle giant weighing in at 23
pounds and showing no sign of stopping!!
We also have a very large quiet yard and have taken in many feral cats
that I am slowing getting fixed. All of our cats bring joy to us and are
very loving. Benjie is very special as he is a gentle giant and could (if
he so chose) be aggressive and swipe a cat with his paw and do damage.
But, he would prefer to walk away from any aggressive behavior. Our inside
cats even travel with us in our motorhome and are the best travelers. I
hope you enjoy these pictures of Benjie, even though pictures do not do
justice to his beauty.
