Meet
Sylvester - long, lean, and lithe with snow white boots and a striking
tuxedo coat of pure velvet - a handsome dude!
Sylvester had a rough start in life. He was found by a rescue group as a
tiny kitten crouched in a back corner of an abandoned dog house. Sylvester,
two siblings, and the mother cat then spent several months with a foster
family. Sylvey and I crossed paths at a Petsmart when he was about five
months old. I adopted him and an unrelated tabby, Alfie, who was also raised
by the same caring folks.
Both currently two years old, they still have kittenish behavior. Frequently
they engage in tussling, chasing, leaping over each other onto furniture,
and racing like the wind. From Alfie he has learned to knead and to be a
sometimes lap cat. He allows his nails to be trimmed and his teeth brushed.
But he is not happy when visitors arrive and he usually hides.
Syl's favorite nap time hangout is on the very top of the crow's nest of a
floor-to-ceiling cat tree. One quick bolt and he's up there, barely touching
the various levels as he jumps. He loves tiny catnip mice that he can pounce
on and carry around in his mouth.
Sylvey's vocabulary continues to grow. Besides his name, some words he
recognizes are: eat (of course), out, No (!), and garage. After dinner he
likes to go into the garage to sit on the roof of the car to meditate under
the warmth of the overhead light.
I feel so fortunate to have this precious feline as my friend!
