I adopted
Cocoa this past year. She was rescued by the Cat House on the
Kings - a local no-kill animal shelter. They found her in an animal
hoarding situation and decided she needed to be rescued and have a special
home of her own. That is where I came in. The Cat House on the Kings was
having a Kitty Adoption day at PetCo. I was there to pick up a few gifts
for a friend. They told me about her and it was love at first sight.
Cocoa was underweight and had a few scratches with patches of fur missing,
and had bleeding scars on her fur. As you can see, Cocoa is now a healthy
and very affectionate kitty. She is now beautiful in coat, health, spirit
and personality.
Cocoa loves to take showers. The minute she hears the water going in the
tub, she runs to the shower and jumps in. Cocoa plays hide and go seek on
a daily basis. She will charge down the hallway, hide behind a door until
you say, "Where's Cocoa?" Then she will charge back down the hallway again
in the other direction. She has quite a bit of fur under her paws so you
can imagine her sliding around on the hardwood floor. Her favorite toys
are boxes, paper bags, and cloth covered hair scrunchies. I will come home
and find the scrunchies in her food bowl!
Cocoa also knows when it is bedtime. She will come to bed once the lights
are turned out for the evening. She sleeps soundly through the entire
night without one single peep. She is small in size (petite as I call her)
but mighty in spirit. She is not afraid of the vacuum cleaner. She prefers
to fight with it while it is running rather than hide.
She is really a sweetheart. She has not been a pain at all yet, which is
really surprising for a four year old set in her ways. I think she is so
grateful to be saved. She is very quirky. The shower thing, the vacuum
cleaner fighting thing, dainty with the litter box, hide and go seek, etc.
are all weird, but just part of who she is.
Cocoa truly is a very special girl. She is my first real pet that is mine.
And no - I did not intend to get a pet the day I walked into Petco. I went
to get a gift. I saw my friends from the Cat House on the Kings and they
said I had to see this special girl. Cocoa is my very special little girl.
She brings me laughter and tons of affection.
