My
husband and I bought Gus (and his brother Albert) after a visit to The
London Pet Show two years ago. We were thinking about getting a cat, and
after chatting to some breeders at the show were recommended that an exotic
shorthair might be the best choice for us. The breeder also happened to have
two male exotics that were looking for a home, so we agreed to pick them up
from Wiltshire a few weeks later.
I think the journey home made us realise Gus wasn't just a regular cat -
after howling non stop for the first hour of the journey, he then lay on his
back with his legs in the air for the final hour. After nearly crashing the
car in panic, we realised that Gus actually rather likes sleeping on his back
with his legs in the air - he still does it now sometimes!
Gus follows me everywhere I go when I am at home, he even gently paws my
cheek if I am asleep and he wants attention/ food/ entertaining. The only
time he doesn't follow me is late at night when he goes 'hunting'. Sometimes
when I am just drifting off to sleep at night I will hear a very peculiar
howling sound, followed by Gus running up the stairs. This happens when Gus
'hunts' a toy mouse downstairs, then carries it up to me in bed like a little
present. He howls as he carries it in his mouth which is what causes the
rather peculiar sound!
At the moment Gus has a very keen interest in my sewing basket. He loves to
sit by me in an evening if I am making something, staring intently at the
wool thread. Every so often temptation gets the better of him though and a
paw finds its way into the basket or onto my wool! Luckily he hasn't damaged
anything yet, although not for lack of trying!
Despite his sometimes mischievous ways Gus is a real sweetheart. He is
extremely loving, gentle and sweet. Between him and his brother Albert our
home is never short of entertainment!
