The
story of how I got Bella was all meant to be and had to do with a certain
amount of right timing and luck on my part and total optimism on Bella's
part. It was late September on an evening of cool temperatures and drizzle
when Bella came into my life. We were celebrating my mom's 80th birthday at
my parents place when loud and very insistent meowing could be heard outside.
My parents live in a retirement community two hours from where I live where a
policy prohibits pets from being able to roam free. Everyone at the birthday
celebration could hear this heart-wrenching meowing and I was quick to look
outside and see this little needy face and wet body staring back at me. I
gave her a saucer of milk and she lapped it up quickly. Clearly this kitty
was stressed and wanted to be cared for. I picked her up and she was soaked
and put her in our car and a short time later when we were ready to go home
she had dried herself off and was sitting on my lap purring so loudly and
didn't stop purring for almost two weeks!!!
When we got home she was greeted by our other three "rescue" cats. Just a few
hisses, but by the next day they were all becoming friends. We took her to a
Vet to have her checked out and her age was estimated to be about six months.
Aside from the fact she was on the small size, due to a lack of food and
proper nutrition, she came through with a clean bill of health. In the
meantime my parents kept a watch out for any 'lost cat' signs, but there was
nothing. My dad believes someone probably just dropped her off in their
retirement community assuming an elderly person would take her in.
From the night we got Bella she has shown her love and gratefulness for
having found her "forever home". Her affection includes giving me a daily
face and neck washing!! When you make eye contact with her beautiful eyes,
she always gives a little grunt and I believe that translates to a "hi" or "I
love you" :) We will never forget how optimistic she was on that night! Bella
is "paws-itively" a wonderful cat and we are so happy she is part of our feline family!!
