I
had been wanting a male orange kitty since I had lost my orange Boo Radley
at age 21 in 2011. Buster joined our family last summer after I saw him on a
local animal shelter website. He had parasites and ear mites and my vet said
he was underweight. It didn't take long before he was driving us and our twelve
year old Maine coon cat crazy, running around breaking things, chasing
chickens, eating plants and destroyed a leather stool last winter.
At first he was only allowed outside on a harness, but as the snow got deep
in the winter he could go on his own. He loves the snow, as it slides right
off his fur. He wasn't crazy about the spring rains, but now that summer
weather is here, he wants to be out all the time. He is a very independent
kitty, but likes to follow us around and is always close by. He is very vocal
and lets us know what he wants, but he has a very sweet and sunny
disposition. My older cat likes him now and has showed him the ropes outside.
He has learned to not chase the chickens, although sometimes he just can't
resist. He has discovered where the catnip grows, so has to stop by there
every day for a taste and a roll. He is our curious and entertaining boy!
Buster's favorite indoor game is cat fishing - using an old fishing pole with
a small toy mouse tied on the end. He is extremely vocal with his people -
sometimes he has to be very loud before he gets his way. He is not much of a
lap cat, but if you pet him or brush him and scratch his head he will give
you a loud purr. I don't think he is quite finished growing yet - he is still
a kitten in a lot of ways and hopefully always will be. He has calmed down a
bit from his more destructive kitten ways and is a very important part of the
family - even his "sister" likes him now. And we love him.
