Introducing
Cleopatra Jones (also known as Cleo, Little Girl, Keyta, Snuggle
pants, Snugs, etc.). Even though her full name is Cleopatra Jones, we never
call her that. Cleo has been my little girl for all of her 18 years, with the
exception of a few unfortunate years when my lifestyle was such that I
couldn't handle a dependent and she, along with her brother and sister (who
have since passed away), were instead well-cared for by their "grandmother."
Having her back in my life has made so much difference. Being her caregiver
humbles me and keeps my priorities in check. She reminds me of what's really
important: good food, rest, and love.
We start the day with snuggles in bed, then she trots off for her breakfast
buffet. Her favorite ways to spend the day include: hunting birds (through
the window), silverfish, and spiders; sleeping on the bed, couch, or behind
the bedroom door; checking out the new smells in the backyard; tearing around
the house (but only after she uses the litter); and hanging out with her
mommy and daddy, wherever we are. At the dinner table she likes to sit on one
of our laps and tell us about her day with a series of crackling mews. When
it's time for bed, she often gets there first - taking up my side of the bed!
She's a very special girl and I'm so touched that she feels the same about me.
