Chico
is a former shelter cat that bestows an abundance of joy in our
household. We adopted Chico from a shelter when he was eight weeks old. He has a
unique raspy meow and uses it to "talks" to us frequently. He takes part in
our conversations, many times answering questions before we have a chance to respond.
If a telephone rings in a movie or television show, Chico becomes very alert
and frantically looks toward the spare bedroom, then back at us. You see, we
used to work at home and he knows that if a phone rings, answer it promptly.
Chico is also our "security cat" - after we install any type of electronics
in the house, he locates and carefully sniffs the cords, cables and devices
to make sure everything is properly connected.
When Chico was younger, he excelled at jumping great heights to retrieve his
favorite toys. Now he loves to cuddle in our laps, rolls over to get a gentle
belly rub, and cuddle with us in bed at nights. He uses his large green eyes
to look into our eyes and express love. His favorite people-foods (when
allowed to nibble on them) are shrimp, filet mignon, angel food cake, vanilla
wafer cookies, extra sharp cheddar cheese and sweet corn. If we say the word
shrimp, corn, cookie or cake, he comes running to his food bowl and meows.
Having Chico in our household is like having a loving best friend, not just a pet.
