first time I saw Kitty she was in a small case in a pet shop, on display.
She was a few weeks old and was the only kitten left from her litter. I was
only five or six years myself and all I knew was that we were looking for a cat,
not really understanding what to look for in a cat. After we initially saw
kitty my mum and dad were going to look elsewhere (as they had their heart
set on a black male cat) but as we got outside to the car my brother,
Richard, kicked up a fuss and said that Kitty matched our dog at the time,
Jess (which she did may I add! They both where white and had black splodges).
After that my mum and dad bought the cat and decided on the the name Kitty.
When we finally got her home my mum and dad left our dog and kitty in the
same room together so they had time to get used to each other. They did more
than that; Kitty looked up to our dog Jess like a mother and when my parents
checked to see how the dog and cat were doing, Kitty was suckling Jess'
teats. She obviously needed a mother and she had found one.
Kitty has brought so much joy to our house over the years including giving
birth to four healthy kittens (Jess laid next to Kitty the whole time while she
gave birth). We kept two kittens and called them Shelly and Max and as it
turned out Max was a black male cat, just like mum and dad originally wanted.
Over the years we adopted three more dogs, Cassie, Molly and Jack but Kitty
has always remained top boss.
