This
dapper gent is a great companion and has a cheeky personality. Wilfred
was adopted as a kitten from a no-kill animal shelter in Woodend, Victoria
and we were instantly smitten by his markings (full tuxedo with spats - short
white socks - with a 'milk-splash' of white on his lip). We've always liked
black and white cats, and Wilfred is particularly fine.
We always adopt our cats rather than buy from a breeder or a pet store; I
think it's fairer and that it's good to give them a second chance. When I
asked to hold him in the shelter, as soon as he was in my arms I knew I'd
found the cat I was after. He was a little timid at first but began to purr
loudly and snuggle against me. My heart melted ...
Soon thereafter, Wilfred was put into a wire travelling box with a emerald
green towel and we took him home. I've never looked back.
His name came to us because he just seemed like a Wilfred. I had been
thinking about names and we decided Wilfred seemed to suit him and his
personality - I was wanting a name which sounded a little bit posh - so
Wilfred he is. He's also known affectionately as Will. Most people are amused
by his name, which is one of the reasons I think it's a good name for a fine cat.
From a tiny kitten he grew into quite a large cat. His temperament's good -
he's friendly and enjoys snuggling, but does get a little over-excited when
playing pouncing games! He enjoys sleeping the day away on his mohair blanket
on the couch, loves playing with ribbons and his toys, particularly his plush
toy Wombat, which he wrestles, and often brings to me to throw for him so he
can play fetch. And yes, he plays fetch ... but don't tell him that dogs love
playing that game too!
That's Wilfred's story, and I'm chuffed to have him as my pet; he's a very
fine cat indeed and a very handsome boy - but he already knows that!
