Oliver is my first Savannah. After the passing of my beloved kitty Abby last year, my home felt empty. There's wonderful woman
named Betsy at Belle Hollow Farm in NC. not too far from my home. She raises Savannahs, and I have always loved the idea of a little wild cat.
So, I went to check them out. I fell in love with a little kitten there and named him Oliver Fauntleroy. So I could call him Olliefaunt for short. I thought it was clever.
He picked me, I think. He actually enjoyed laying on his back in my
hands. A very impatient month later I got to take him home. Now he's nine
months old and almost 15 pounds, even though I asked him nicely not to grow
up so darn fast. He also loves to play a game where I have a long stick
with a 4-foot ribbon tied to the end like a fishing pole. On the end of
the ribbon is his favorite toy stuffed monkey. He will leap into the
air, sometimes upwards of 6 feet or more to catch it. Then he drags the
whole thing, stick and all under the bookshelf to hide it. He carries
the monkey like lions and tigers would carry prey in the wild. It's
pretty cool.
Oliver has learned the "double meow" which is two meows right in a row.
It goes like,"meow meow!" Essentially it's his way of demanding that I
zing hair ties for him to chase. This happens several times a day. He
even figured out where I store my extra hair ties, and he climbed up on
the shelf and carted them, one by one into the bathtub to play with them
there. I love this little weirdo.
I'm still working on tricks. He will get on his hind legs when I ask him
to. I wanted to teach him "high 5" or something interactive like that.
His little paw pads are black and soft so I call them his little beans.
Sometimes his little beans get kisses. He's not too amused by that. Ha
ha!
