Kalamero
was the first pet I ever had - I was 32 years old when my fiancée
asked me back in summer 2006 if we could get a cat. As I had never had a pet
as a child or indeed up till I was 32, when we went to Edinburgh's Cat
Protection League and were given the gift that is Kalamero, I was initially a
bit cautious. I did not realize that every cat and dog, or any animal,
had their own unique personality and traits. WOW WAS I WRONG. I IMMEDIATELY
FELL IN LOVE WITH Kalamero and cats in general. We chose her, as she was nine
months old and looked so regal, so elegant and that first night she slept in
our bed with my fiancée and I.
Within ten months we had a second cat, Leon, a male ginger Domestic Short
hair with vivid markings and he was only six weeks old and a little bundle of
orange fur and cuteNess. Within two weeks, Kalamero started to 'mother' Leon.
She would groom him, leave him food and generally acted like a surrogate
mother: I found this profoundly beautiful. One year later and a friend who
had two young girls, who loved both Kalamero and Leon due to their
friendly natures, decided to get a cat for his kids. He phoned us and advised
there was one little black and white kitten left so when offered my partner
could not resist this tiny wee cute black and white male kitty with
extraordinary long whiskers and eyebrows - this was baby Oscar. So by August
2008 we had three babies! And just like Kalamero groomed young Leon, Leon in
turn helped to bring up baby Oscar in the same way Kalamero had mothered him.
The two boys immediately had bonded - I believe they had true love for each
other and this melted both Samantha and my hearts.
Kalamero loves to be the lady of the house preferring to stay indoors unless
it was not raining and warm she would go outside for short periods of time.
As for Leon, he loved the outdoors (and he still does!) and Oscar enjoyed
going out too. So now in 2015, Kalamero is eight and a half, Leon is seven and a
half and wee Oscar is now six and a half. They still love each other and all
three display great affection and positive traits that, as I do not have
children, the three cats feel like our three children and we would both walk over hot
coals to ensure their welfare.
I have been totally and utterly converted as a cat lover and I believe I will
have a feline babbie for the rest if my life. I could not believe the empathy
they gave and their ability to tune in to our emotions! Kalamero is so
gentle, so feminine, so friendly (not so keen on being lifted up) and such a
great sibling for the two younger boys. She is all black, nose and paws and all
and I feel as she helped me find the greatest creatures on this planet -
cats. She loves to snuggle up to us and has a big appetite to say the least!
Her fur coat is so, so glossy and silky - more so than the two boys (who have
wonderful individual traits of their own ).
Kalamero is also a skillful hunter and has proved herself to be a champion
"mouser." I hope you won't penalize her for her fondness of hunting mice but
wow, she is good at hunting! Every visitor we get who sits down comments on
her natural beauty but she only jumps up beside people whom she trusts (I
believe she can sense a human's aura ) and will never stay outside late. To
finish off, I want to acknowledge that Kalamero's sweet nature helped to open
my eyes to such a wonderful pet and animal that is the cat!!
