Introducing George a.k.a. GGGIII a.k.a. Georgeous George Greypuss the Third. The III is taken from England's King George IIIrd who was so territorial
that he and his government lost America. He's a dark silver grey, so we think maybe there some Burmese in there. We think he and his staff (owners?)
could be a lesson to all of us cat keepers. Cats with a territory can get into fights and get injured, which is not good for his health.
He's a handsome but boofhead male with a once big range in our estate, and he's special because he survived his sister Minnie who we miss terribly still. He is the calmest but friendliest cat we have ever had, but he is very territorial. So, he's been to hospital after fights so often that we now call him the "thousand-dollar cat."
We believe that he would have aged less than he has if we'd got around to thinking about all that, and keeping him as an inside cat.
We have now invested in better fencing and plastic spikes along the top to keep him in. This might be a work in progress until
all escape paths are blocked, and the fence tops may have to expand to the very tall fences if he keeps getting out. That said, he doesn't get out of the yard very often anymore.
But this is in winter and he likes to be inside and warm in his heated igloo.
He may want to roam, once it's warm to very hot again, and so we will keep the work to defined stages until he does give in.
We have given up on trying to turn him into an indoor-only cat, as he is turning 15 next month and has been a wanderer for a long time. We hope we can restrict him to staying in the yard.
That said, we do love our George very much, and hope he is with us for a long time to come.
